Case Study - Crowns

Candice came into our practice with a dream of having a beautiful and confident smile to match her personality. She's been a little embarrassed about the way that her teeth have looked for years and when a front tooth chipped, she decided to finally do something about it.

After performing a full assessment of her teeth, we discovered that she required root canal treatment first (which is not as scary as it sounds and can be done very quickly and easily - more on this to come in future posts), before even looking at the cosmetics of her teeth.
Once this was done, we could then start the process of preparing the teeth for crowns for four of her top front teeth.

Here's how the process works:
- A mould of the teeth is taken, so that we can provide the patient with temporary crowns while the "real deal" is being made in the laboratory.
- The teeth are then shaped very specifically so that the crown can be fitted properly onto it at a later stage to ensure crown stability and retention.
- While the teeth are being shaped, we also remove any decay that is present or any tooth structure/filling materials that are unsound.
- We then take a dental impression of the teeth, to be used when making the crowns.
- Temporary crowns (from the mould we made in the beginning of the session) are "cemented" onto your teeth using temporary cement, so that you look the same as you always have while your new smile is being constructed.

The new crowns are then manufactured in a laboratory over the next few days. This is an intricate process as the crowns need to fit perfectly in your mouth so that they don't interfere with (and often in cases actually improve) your bite.

In your crown placement appointment, we remove your temporary crowns and clean your teeth. We then fit your new crowns and permanently cement them into place. We check the fit and appearance, make any adjustments necessary and send you on your way, smiling from ear-to-ear!

It takes a team to ensure that this process is perfect - here is ours!

We are over the moon with the results and so is Candice!

She left our practice with renewed energy and confidence. We are so thrilled to have been chosen to look after this intricate transformation for her.
